European XFEL - Visit
On Monday, 26 August 2024 during the guided tours of the European XFEL facility, visitors have the opportunity to visit the experimental hall and some of the 7 instruments. These can include FXE, HED, MID, SQS etc. The tours last about 20-30 min.

Bus shuttle DESY, Bahrenfeld <-> European XFEL, Schenefeld
Starting at 14:30, for every 20 min., we will offer a bus shuttle between DESY and XFEL and back (during 14:30h - 18:30h). Please note that due to traffic and any unforeseen circumstances, the departure times may vary and are subject to change. The transportation will take approx. 20 min. one way. The pick up location at the DESY site will be in front of the CFEL building and in front of the main building at the EuXFEL site.
Please show up early and visit European XFEL first. The first bus to leave DESY is at 14.30h. Only a limited number of people are allowed in the European XFEL experimental hall for safety reasons and all available time slots need to be used.
Public transport
If you cannot take one of the bus shuttles, please make use of the public transport (HVV). European XFEL is accessible by bus (Metrobuses 2, 186 and 285), with access to several S-Bahn stations (Iserbrook, Elbgaustraße, Halstenbek and the long-distance hub at Bahnhof Altona with the bus line 2).
Safety regulations
Clothing
Flat, closed shoes are mandatory in the experiment hall.
Bags
Larger bags and backpacks cannot be taken into the experimental hall. You may store your bags and clothes in our storage rooms and lockers (at your own liability).
Taking photos and being photographed
Photography for non-commercial purposes is allowed. Please do not take pictures of staff members unless they explicitly agree. We will take pictures during the visits. If you don't agree with being photographed please let us know at the beginning of the visit.
Accessibility
Accessibility lifts are available and barrier-free movement is possible during the tour. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any additional assistance or have any questions.
